Did you ever have the desire to call in sick? Well, you’re not alone. A number of employees these days are now “specialized” when it comes to making plausible excuses just not to come to work. You can’t blame them. The boss can’t persecute them either. The routine work in the office or the possible conflicts existing between colleagues can definitely cause some dissatisfaction and demotivation in the workplace.

So what should you do when “boredom” strikes?

For one, you can do random set of activities. You can research on additional stuff that can help you with your work. If researching doesn’t sound appealing to you, you can always have a lunch out and pamper yourself with a 15 minute massage. There are certainly a lot of things you can do if you really wanted to make every working day a livable day.

Here are more tips on how you can spice up your office work hours and feel good about staying inside your cube.

1. Do something that you like

Whether reading a good book or eating a chocolate cake perks you up by all means do it. Doing the things that you like can freshen up your mind and make you feel that there are still things that is within your control.

2. Have a good playlist stored in your PC

According to studies, an individual accustomed to listening to music while working has a higher productivity compared to people who don’t. Moreover, having your favorite playlist playing while you work can sweep you off your boredom. Just don’t sing along with it so you won’t disturb your colleagues.

3. Make your space “livable”

Create a small “community” in your workplace. You can place stuff that you like such as action figures of your favorite movie or cartoon character or any plaything that can perk you up while you’re bored to death. Physio balls are great especially when you need to entertain yourself while thinking. Don’t overdo it though, you don’t want your workplace to look like a toy store.

4. Reward yourself

It also helps if you would treat yourself once in a while. Were you able to submit a project on time? Did you impress the boss with your power presentation? Reward yourself. Go catch a movie. Treat yourself to a spa. You deserve some pampering after a hard day’s work. These little perks can give you something to look forward to during the day.

5. Cherish the sense of accomplishment

There are a lot of ways on how you can look forward to office workday without a frown on your face. Calling in sick and feeling lazy is normal. Everybody is guilty of such crimes (mind you, even our superiors do sleep and slack around during work hours!). However, you need to make sure that you don’t make a habit out of it.

Be grateful that you have a work to sustain you. There  are many people who would kill or sacrifice big in exchange of what you have now.
